I am currently working on a CNC controller and looking for advice on what outputs may be needed on M03/M04 (Spindle) control

    What I currently have is:
    For Stepper motors
    – a stepper pulse output ( controlled by the “S” value )
    – direction output
    – an On/Off output ( to turn on fans,cooling,lights, etc. )

    For DC Motors
    – a PWM output ( controlled by the “S” value )
    – direction output
    – an On/Off output

Is there anything else I am missing?
Would this be enough to run a laser ( in PWM mode )?
Is there any other gantry based CNC that might have any other requirements ( something’omatic )

Nice would be to include the opto isolation and filter to allow the spindle PWM output to wire directly to a VFD (a very common setup)
